Capture, location, maps, video, local storage and safe troubleshooting for Photo Ledger.

Take your first photo

  1. Open the app. The camera opens automatically when camera permission and a usable camera are available. Grant camera access if you want to capture.
  2. Optionally enable app location and device location services. Choose approximate or precise access as you prefer. Location can be declined while taking a photo without a location claim.
  3. Wait for a useful location fix or address where available. Check freshness and reported accuracy; an address is not a guarantee of precision.
  4. Choose a template and optional project or note, then take the photo.
  5. Private preservation and stamping/gallery-saving are separate stages. A pulsing gallery thumbnail indicates processing; it does not mean every export has finished.
  6. Open the local gallery to review the untouched original and stamped copy. Check the processing status and any system-gallery save result separately.

Use the in-app guidance and bundled video tutorials for a walkthrough. Original and stamped copies serve different purposes: the original preserves the captured file; the stamped derivative adds the selected visible context. Neither independently certifies a place or event.

Quick camera controls

  • Aspect ratio: choose Original, 4:3, 16:9 or Square. Review the frame before capture.
  • Grid: a preview composition guide; it is not a location measurement or an automatic stamp.
  • Timer: Off, 3, 5 or 10 seconds. Keep the device steady while the countdown runs.
  • Focus: use automatic focus or manual/tap-locked focus on a subject. This is a tap/lock control, not a lens-distance slider.
  • Mirror: horizontal mirroring changes the selected image orientation. Check the preview/export and any readable text, especially on the selfie camera.
  • Shutter sound: optional app feedback, separate from microphone recording. The setting cannot override operating-system or regional restrictions.
  • White balance: supported native presets depend on the lens and device. Unsupported options may be unavailable or fall back.
  • Camera level: a preview alignment guide using supported sensors. It does not prove location or accuracy.
  • Styled text: add, style and move the text overlay; review its position before exporting.
  • Video voice: choose whether video includes microphone audio, subject to permission. It is separate from shutter sound.

Zoom, rear/selfie switching and flash depend on the active lens and device. A selfie camera may have different zoom, focus, white-balance or flash support. Grid and level guides assist the preview rather than becoming proof in an exported photo. Check each stamped result rather than assuming all controls are supported on every phone.

Photo stamps, addresses and maps

Select a template and the location/address, coordinates, time, note or project context you want to include. Maps are MapLibre-rendered OpenFreeMap street maps, using OpenMapTiles/OpenStreetMap data. Satellite imagery is not configured. Required map attribution stays with exported map imagery; it cannot simply be removed to tidy a stamp.

Missing maps or addresses do not block photo saving. Coordinates may remain useful without an address. Check labels for approximate, stale, manual, imported or detected mocked context. Imported information is not independently verified GPS; neither a map picture nor more decimal places improves the underlying reading. Read Location & Accuracy.

QR detection works on captured images. It is not a continuous live QR scanner. Review any detected link before choosing to open it.

Record and review video

  1. Open Video from the camera controls. Choose rear/selfie camera and a supported quality option; unsupported choices may fall back on that device.
  2. Enable voice if you want microphone audio, then grant audio permission when requested. Keep voice off for silent recording.
  3. Start recording. Use the available pause/resume controls and Stop to finish. Do not assume recording continues after switching apps, suspension or an interruption.
  4. Allow processing to finish. Review local playback and the selected location stamp/text overlay.
  5. Share explicitly or choose optional system-gallery saving. Check the destination to confirm that copy was saved.

Location and time are fixed at recording start, not a changing route trace. Processing can be interrupted by the OS; reopen the app to inspect pending work. If a processing failure retains a source/retry entry, preserve it and use the offered retry after checking free storage. Do not repeatedly delete or recapture important material to hide an error.

Videos and photos have separate storage workflows. Videos are excluded from photo-ledger backups. Export important videos separately before deleting data or changing devices.

Gallery, projects and annotations

Use projects and optional notes to keep capture context together. Choose templates for stamp appearance. Apply favourites, tags and the available filters/search to find local photos. Review whether you are looking at original, stamped, imported or trashed content.

Supported annotations can be edited on the derived image: review text, colour, positioning and available undo/redo before saving. Editing an annotation does not independently verify the original scene or location. Untouched originals remain separate from the annotated/stamped copy.

Reports, sharing, backups and redaction

Use the Report/PDF feature to choose photos, order and report options, then generate a document and inspect it before sharing. This is a photo-report export, not the “report a bug” support action. Use OS sharing to send selected files to your chosen destination.

Export a private photo-ledger backup and restore it only through the app’s backup/restore workflow. Keep the original backup file, check completeness and available storage, and avoid modifying archive contents. Checksums are integrity checks, not encryption. Videos require separate export.

For a supported captured photo, redacted export makes a separate copy. Original files can contain embedded location metadata; metadata removal does not erase visible text, faces or stamps. Imported images may already contain sensitive pixels and cannot be guaranteed safe by automatic redaction. Review originals, reports, videos and backup contents before sharing. Privacy Policy describes the different destinations and deletion guidance explains separate copies.

Camera and audio troubleshooting

The camera is denied, black or unavailable.

Check camera permission in device settings, whether another app is using the camera, the active lens and the app’s status. Close overlays, reopen the app and, if needed, restart the device. A simulator or some hardware may not offer a usable camera. Preserve existing records; do not clear storage as a first fix.

Zoom, flash, focus or white balance does not change.

Check the active rear/selfie lens and whether it supports that control. Try a supported automatic option. Manual focus here is tap/lock, not a distance slider. Hardware limits and platform fallback are not proof that every capture failed.

The shutter is slow or the thumbnail pulses.

Inspect pending processing, image size and available storage. Preservation, stamping and optional gallery saving are separate stages; leave time for the queue. Reopen to check retained work after an interruption. The app does not promise zero shutter lag or guaranteed background execution.

Shutter sound or video audio is unexpected.

The shutter preference controls app feedback, not mandatory platform behavior or microphone audio. For video, check the voice preference, microphone permission, device input and playback volume. Do a non-sensitive short test. A recording made without usable microphone audio cannot be assumed recoverable with sound.

A video failed processing.

Keep the retained source/retry entry, check free storage and reopen the app. Retry through the offered processing action. Check playback before sharing or deleting the source. Operating-system interruptions can stop recording or processing; do not assume an unfinished clip is intact.

Location and map troubleshooting

Location is off or warnings keep appearing.

Check app GPS/location use, foreground permission and device location services. You may decline location and capture without a location claim. Repeated warnings are not a reason to grant a permission you do not want.

I dismissed the Android accuracy prompt or chose approximate location.

The supported accuracy prompt belongs to the OS/Google Play services. You control whether to accept it or adjust device settings later. Approximate permission can produce broader readings; the app should not describe them as exact GPS. Location-free capture remains available.

GPS is slow, stale or inaccurate indoors.

Move to a safe open area if practical, allow time for a fresh fix and inspect reported age/uncertainty. Buildings, terrain and settings affect results. Freshness and precision are different; do not add decimals to imply an improvement.

The address is missing or wrong.

The phone’s system geocoder estimates a place/address and may need a network connection. Check the location context, connection and address before relying on it. Coordinates can be saved without an address. Turn off app GPS/location use to stop its location-based address lookups.

The street map is missing or I am offline.

Map resources may be unavailable or uncached. Check connectivity and try again later; maps are optional and must not block photo saving. Street maps are supported, not satellite imagery. Retain any required attribution in available exported map images.

Saving, backups and local-data troubleshooting

A photo is in the app but not in Photos/gallery.

Private ledger saving and system-gallery saving are separate. Check the app’s gallery-save setting, the per-item processing status, system Photos/gallery permission and free storage. On iOS, review add-only Photos permission where applicable; on Android check the current gallery-saving result. Do not delete the private original before confirming an exported copy.

Storage is low.

Pause large exports, check device free space and preserve important files. Export needed backups/videos before carefully removing unnecessary copies. Check Trash and other apps’ exports as separate locations. Do not clear all storage or uninstall merely to retry processing.

My local files disappeared after a reinstall or device change.

There is no Matrixbreach photo cloud or guaranteed transfer/recovery. Keep any surviving files and private backups. Device/OS backups can behave differently; restoration is not guaranteed. Contact support with minimal context before taking further destructive steps.

A backup is incomplete or will not restore.

Keep the original archive untouched, check available storage and select a complete compatible backup through the app. Do not bypass an invalid-file warning or edit files inside it to force restoration. Report the error text and version without sending a private backup routinely.

My videos are absent from a backup.

Photo-ledger backups currently exclude videos. Export and preserve important videos separately. A photo restore is not a promise to restore video recordings.

Other questions

The translated labels look wrong.

The app has nineteen bundled language choices, including automatic translation drafts. Switch language if a label is unclear and include the selected language in a minimal report. User photos, notes and addresses are not sent for runtime translation.

Rate App, More Apps or purchase actions are unavailable.

Public store listings and real purchases are not configured by this development build. A settings entry does not mean an active paid offer or restoration service exists. Use the support link for questions; no fake store button is provided here.

Why is there a black or reserved banner area?

Reserved space can remain in development layouts. It does not serve advertisements. No ads or advertising SDK is enabled in the current app; there is no paid No Ads entitlement.

Can this photo prove attendance or a legal event?

No independent certification is provided. Device location, clocks, imported/manual context and hashes have limits. Check the receiving organisation’s requirements and read Location & Accuracy rather than treating a stamp as certified evidence.
